I was but a child of five

When you became a bride



My memory holds but a shadow of

That day you hold so dear

A day that sealed a love for you that has lasted year to year



That day you shined and blossomed in that little dress of blue

I was but a child looking up to you.



Years passed by quickly,
as they so often do

In such a hurry to grow up

I seldom thought of you.



I was busy meeting boys,

I had my group of friends

Went through the lastest fashions

Was boasting latest trends



You were busy with a family
You started very young

I was singing the sweet song
You had already sung



We were worlds apart

You were changing diapers,

I was breaking hearts



Then one day it happened

You popped back into my life

I was getting married

I too would be a wife



You came into my room

You knealed beside my bed

You took my hand in yours

And this is what you said



You said "I am your sister"

You said "I love you so"

You said "I will always be here for you"

"If you should need a place to go"



You said "you're starting a journey"

"That will make a different you"

You said "I will be here always to help to see you through"



You said "We will be closer now, than we have ever been before"

You rose..and then you left me

I was shaken to the core



It was as though that I'd just met you

This new vision from a past time

I knew, without a doubt,
A better friend I would never find



I have grown much older now and so have you my dear

We have shared in all our joys
We've been as one through many tears



We have told each other secrets

That noone else will ever know

We have become the sisters

That we weren't so long ago



You are my one and only sis,

God gave me one..He knew

That had He gave me more,

I'd not be as close to you



For this I thank Him daily

For I know that you are there

If all the world should fail me

I know you'll always care

If I could catch a rainbow
I would do it just for you

And share with you it's beauty
On the days you're feeling blue...

If I could build a mountain
You could call your very own
A place to find serenity
A place to be alone....

If I could take your troubles
I would toss them in the sea
But all these things I'm finding
Are impossible for me...

I cannot build a mountain
Or catch a rainbow fair
But let me be what I know best
A friend that's always there~
